There are several ways you can share your notes, both with Evernote users and people who don't have an Evernote account.

Update the permission level of a public note

You can update the general permission level selecting from three different tiers in the sharing modal. You can open the sharing modal by clicking or tapping on the Share button or the Share icon in the upper right corner, or by clicking or tapping on the three dots, and then selecting Share.

  • Restricted access
Only who received an invitation via email for a note can view it, edit it, or edit and invite others, depending on the granted permissions.
  • Anyone with the link can view
Formerly known as "Share a note via public link". Anyone can view the note in the Lite editor without creating an Evernote account or logging in.
  • Anyone with the link can edit
Anyone can edit the note in the Lite editor without creating an Evernote account or logging in.

Publicly share a note through the link

Every note in Evernote comes with a unique URL you can copy and paste to share with anyone, even outside of Evernote. Each time someone opens the link to your note, they will see the most recent version in their web browser, along with the option to open the note in their own account.

Thanks to the new Lite editor, you can also collaborate with people who don’t have an Evernote account. All you need to do is set your note as public, copy the note link in your clipboard, and share it through your favourite channels, and the note will be publicly accessible to anyone with the link. You can always update the sharing permissions, choosing whether others can only view the note or also edit it.

Open the note you would like to share. From here, there are several ways to copy a note’s link to share for public.

  • Web and Desktop (Mac and Windows)
    -
Click on the link icon in the upper right corner, next to the Share button.
    - Click on the Share button in the upper right corner, then click on Copy link in the sharing modal.
    - Click on the three dots menu in the upper right corner, and select Copy link.
  • Mobile (Android, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch)
Click on the Share icon in the upper right corner. In the sharing modal, select either Copy link or Share link.
    - Click on the three dots menu in the upper right corner, and select Copy link.

When you first create a note, the default general access is "Restricted", which means that only people with an invite can access the note. To allow people to access the note via the link, make sure to switch the general access to "Anyone with the link can view" or "Anyone with the link can edit." If you want to stop sharing a note and make it private, you can always set the general access in the sharing modal back as "Restricted Access".

Note: If you set a public note to private and someone tries to access it via the note's link, they'll need to log in before accessing it. Alternatively, they can request access to the note. Learn more about access requests.

Share a note with a specific collaborator

If you choose to share a note with specific collaborators, you can send an invitation with your preferred permission level to each person. You can select a permission level for each user from:

  1. Full access (can edit and invite other users)
  2. Can edit
  3. Can view

You can change the permission level or stop sharing the previously shared note with a collaborator from the dropdown menu next to the name of the collaborator. Follow the instructions below based on your operating system.

  • Web and Desktop (Mac and Windows)
    1. Click on the Share button or click the three dots, then select Share.
    2. Enter name or email address you're going to share a note with.
    3. Select a permission level.
    4. Click on Send invite.

  • Mobile (Android, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch)
    1. Tap the Share icon or tap the three dots in the upper right corner, then select Share note.
    2. Enter name or email address you're going to share a note with.
    3. Select a permission level.
    4. Tap Invite.

When you share a note inviting a user, recipients can open the note directly from the Shared with Me section of the app.

Note: If you want to stop sharing a note with a specific user, you can revoke their access by clicking their permissions next to their name in the sharing modal, then selecting Remove access. If they still have the note's link, they’ll need to request access to open it again. Learn more about access requests.

See the note sharing status

The sharing status of a note is indicated by the icon to the left of the Share button.

  • No icon means the note is not shared.
  • Two green silhouettes mean it is only shared directly with someone. The number next to this icon indicates the number of users with access to that note.
  • A globe icon means the note is public and visible to anyone with the link.

Request access to a note

If you attempt to open a note from a link but don’t have the necessary permissions, you’ll be redirected to a web page where you can request access directly from the note’s owner.
