Accountless Collaboration and Note Sharing

Every note in Evernote comes with a unique URL you can copy and paste to share with anyone, even outside of Evernote. Each time someone opens the link to your note, they will see the most recent version in their web browser, along with the option to open the note in their own account.

Thanks to the new Lite editor, you can also collaborate with people who don’t have an Evernote account. All you need to do is set your note as public, copy the note link in your clipboard, and share it through your favourite channels, and the note will be publicly accessible to anyone with the link. You can always update the sharing permissions, choosing whether others can only view the note or also edit it.

How to publicly share a note through the link

Open the note you would like to share. From here, there are several ways to copy a note’s link to share for public.

  • Web / Mac / Windows
    -
Click on the link icon in the upper right corner, next to the Share button.
    - Click on the Share button in the upper right corner, then click on Copy link in the sharing modal.
    - Click on the three dots menu in the upper right corner, and select Copy link.
  • Android / iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Click on the Share icon in the upper right corner. In the sharing modal, select either Copy link or Share link.
    - Click on the three dots menu in the upper right corner, and select Copy link.

Note:
When you first create a note, the default General Access is "Restricted", which means that only people with an invite can access the note. To allow people to access the note via the link, make sure to switch the General Access to "Anyone with the link can view" or "Anyone with the link can edit." You can always make the note private setting the General Access in the Sharing modal back as "Restricted Access".

How to update the permission level of a public note

You can update the general permission level selecting from three different tiers in the sharing modal. You can open the sharing modal by clicking or tapping on the Share button or the Share icon in the upper right corner, or by clicking or tapping on the three dots, and then selecting Share.

  1. Restricted access
Only who received an invitation via email for a note can view it, edit it, or edit and invite others, depending on the granted permissions.
  2. Anyone with the link can view
Formerly known as "Share a note via public link". Anyone can view the note in the Lite editor without creating an Evernote account or logging in.
  3. Anyone with the link can edit
Anyone can edit the note in the Lite editor without creating an Evernote account or logging in.

How to share a note with a specific collaborator

If you choose to share a note with a specific collaborator(s), you can send an invitation with your preferred permission level to each person. You can select a permission level for each user from:

  1. Full access (can edit and invite other users)
  2. Can edit
  3. Can view

You can change the permission level or stop sharing the previously shared note with a collaborator from the dropdown menu to the right of the name of the collaborator.
