Evernote uses an email address, rather than a username, to uniquely identify you as an account holder. When you first register for Evernote, you are asked for an email address. This email is what you will use to log in to your Evernote account and can be changed from your Account Settings.
If you need to update your Evernote account login email address, please follow the steps below to make sure everything goes smoothly:
- Go to Account Settings > Account Summary.

Next to your email address, select Edit.
- If you have been signed in for more than a day, you may be asked to log in again before the modal opens. This is a security step to confirm your identity.
- If you signed up exclusively via Google or Apple and have not yet set a password, you must first set a password via the password recovery flow before you can change your email. Click Set up a password and follow the instructions on the screen.
- In the Change account email modal, enter your new email address and select Continue.
- An Email verification sent confirmation will appear. A verification email has been sent to your new address. Click Close to close the modal.

Check your new email inbox: you must click on the link in the confirmation email to verify your new email address. Once verified, you will see an Email successfully updated confirmation showing your new address. Select Go to Account Summary to return to your settings.
Your email change is complete only after you see a confirmation screen that says Email successfully updated. This screen explicitly confirms that your email was changed successfully and appears after clicking the Verify my Evernote account link in the email you received.
If after clicking Verify my Evernote account, you’re taken to a login page instead, please log in using your old email address. Once logged in, you’ll see the Email successfully updated confirmation screen, and you can then start using your new email.
Additional things to consider when changing your email:
- If you are not receiving the email notification to update your email address, please follow the troubleshooting steps detailed in this article.
- If while changing your email, you receive a message that the email address is already in use, you most probably have another Evernote account under that email address already. Please refer to this article.
Evernote Teams/Enterprise
Your Evernote Teams/Enterprise email address cannot be used for an individual account, as it is specific to your business account. If you'd like to use your former Teams/Enterprise account email address for an individual account, you will need to contact the Teams admin to change your Teams/Enterprise account email to a different one.
