If you see the "This email address is already in use" message when attempting to change your account email or registering a new account, it means the email is already linked to an existing Evernote account. Here’s how to fix it:
Check for an Existing Account and Recover It
- The email you're trying to use is most likely already associated to a different Evernote account. To check:
-
- Try asking for a password reset using that email address.
- If you receive a password reset email, this confirms the email is already linked to an account.
-
- Try to recover access to that account by following the instructions sent to your email in the step above.
After confirming there's already an Evernote account linked to that email address and recovering the account, you can choose between the following:
Option 1: Change the Account Email Address
- Change that account login email to free up the address you'd like to use for a different account by following the instructions provided in this article.
Option 2: Permanently Close the Existing Evernote Account Associated With That Email Address
- By being logged into the account you want to delete, go to Evernote's account deletion form and follow its guided steps. This will free up its associated email address.
Option 3: Swap the Email Addresses Between This Account and Your Primary One Using a Third Email Address
- This way you'll get to keep both accounts with their content but still be able to make the change you want. To do it, follow the steps in this article.
Once the email address is freed up, you can use it for your new Evernote account.
