If someone shares a note with you that goes against our User Guidelines, you can report it in a couple of clicks. Our Trust & Safety team reviews every report and takes action where needed.
I want to report a note
You can report any note that isn't yours: notes someone shared directly with you by email, and public notes that anyone with the link can open. Report it from the note itself or from the "Note shared with you" email. Both open the same form, so use whichever is easier.
From the Evernote app
- Open the note you want to report
- Select More actions (the ••• icon in the top-right corner)
- Choose Report this note
From the email you received
When someone shares a note with you, Evernote sends you a “Note shared with you” email. That email has a Report this note link at the bottom.
- Find the “Note shared with you” email in your inbox
- Scroll to the bottom (under the Open note link)
- Select Report this note
Filling out the form
The form is short. You’ll be asked for:
- The country you’re reporting from
- A category and subcategory. Pick the closest fit.
- Your name and email address, so we can tell you what we decided. Please double-check the address, as it’s the only way we can reach you.
- Why you’re reporting it, in your own words. This is the part our team reads most closely, so a sentence or two of context helps a lot.
Then select Submit. You don’t need to do anything else.
What happens after you report a note
- A person reviews it. Every report is read by a member of our Trust & Safety team. Nothing is decided automatically.
- We check it against our User Guidelines. If the note breaks them, we take action. Depending on the severity, we may also suspend the account that shared it.
- We email you the outcome, whichever way it goes, including when we decide a note doesn’t break the rules.
Questions people ask
Can I report a note without an Evernote account? Yes. The form asks for your name and email, so you don’t need an account.
What if none of the categories from the form fit? Pick the closest one and explain in your own words in the “I am reporting this because” box. Our team reads every report, and your description matters more than the category you choose.
Can I report my own note? No. If you want to remove a note you created, delete it instead.
Will the other person know I reported them? No. We don’t share who made the report.
Which notes can be reported? Any note that’s been shared with you or published so that anyone with the link can open it.
How long does a review take? We review reports as quickly as we can and prioritize the most serious ones. You’ll get an email as soon as a decision is made.
