Introduction
AI Meeting Notes lets you record meetings directly within Evernote, and automatically generate transcripts and summaries with speaker recognition.
It’s designed to help you capture and organize your meetings more efficiently, turning conversations into searchable, structured notes without leaving the app.
How it works
You can directly record a meeting in the app (either in person or remote) or upload a pre-recorded file. To learn more about recording and uploading audio, renaming and downloading an audio file, visit this article.
Once your recording is in a note:
- On desktop and web, just click the Transcribe button that appears on the file.
- On mobile, tap the audio file, then the pen icon on it to start transcription.

Speaker recognition
When speaker recognition is enabled, Evernote automatically detects and labels different speakers (e.g., Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc.).
Once the transcript is ready, you can rename any speaker by clicking or tapping their name. You can choose to apply the change to just one instance or update all occurrences across the entire transcript.
You can insert additional speaker blocks within a transcription to better organize the conversation.
This makes your notes clearer and easier to navigate, especially for multi-participant discussions.
This option is enabled by default for Meeting Recorder. However, when regenerating a transcription, you can turn it off if you prefer the transcript to appear as a single continuous block of text.
You can still generate summaries even when speaker labels are disabled.
Regenerating transcripts
You can regenerate a transcript from the three-dot menu in the top right corner of any transcript you've already generated. From there, you can choose to remove or add speaker recognition, and change the language of the transcript.
Generate a summary
Once your transcript is ready, you can generate a summary to quickly review what was discussed.
If the Summary button appears greyed out, your transcript may be too short. Summaries become available once enough text has been generated to ensure meaningful results. Try recording or transcribing a longer audio, then try again.
Transcription language
By default, the language of the transcription is automatically detected. However if the detected language is incorrect, or if you want the transcription to be translated into a different language, you can manually choose your preferred language from the Transcribe button dropdown.
Live Transcription
You can view a live transcription in a floating, draggable panel while you record. The panel updates in real time as people speak, so you can follow along during the meeting. You can also hand the live transcription to the AI Assistant while you record to get a summary or ask follow-up questions about what's being discussed.
To have Live Transcription start automatically for all meetings, go to Settings > AI > Features on desktop/web and enable Start Live Transcription automatically. On mobile, go to Settings > AI Features and enable the same option.
FAQ
Can I disable AI transcription or summaries?
Yes, you will find a toggle in your settings to decide which AI features you would like to enable in your account.
- On desktop/web: Go to Settings > Preferences > AI features, and toggle off AI Transcription.
- On mobile: Go to Settings > AI features, and toggle off AI Transcription.
Turning this off disables AI transcription for audio, images, and videos.
Can I download transcripts or summaries?
Currently, downloading the transcript or summary attached to the audio is not yet available. You can only download the recording after it’s complete. However, you can easily copy it thanks to the “Copy transcript” button at the bottom of the block. Then, it’s ready to paste wherever you prefer!
Does AI transcription require an internet connection?
You can record an audio or an in-person meeting even if you’re offline. However, AI processing does require an active internet connection.
Which plans include AI Meeting Notes?
AI Meeting Notes is currently in beta preview for paid users only, but it will soon be rolled out to all users as part of V11.
Which languages are supported?
AI Transcribe supports transcription in over 50 languages, making it suitable for international users and multilingual teams.
Which file types are supported?
AI Meeting Notes supports both audio and video formats.
Are there any limits?
Yes. The maximum supported file size for audio is currently 200 MB or 120 minutes per recording.
Why is the “Summary” button disabled?
The summary option requires at least 250 characters of transcript text to generate a result. If your recording is too short, the button will appear disabled.
Why am I seeing an "Unable to display" error instead of my file?
This may be due to the fact that you added content to a note using an updated version of the app, but are now using an older version that does not support such content. To solve this, you can simply update the app. For more details, visit this page.
Why am I seeing HTML markers in my transcription?
If you see HTML markers, such as <p>, in your transcription, you may still be using one of the earliest beta versions of AI Meeting Notes. Updating your app will fix this issue.
Why am I not seeing the “Transcribe” button?
First, check if AI Transcription is active on your account. Go to Settings > AI Features and check if AI Transcription is toggled on. If it’s enabled, but you still don’t see the button:
- Make sure the format of your audio file is supported. Check supported formats here.
- Try refreshing the page (Cmd + R or Ctrl + R), or quit and reopen Evernote.
- Make sure the note has synced before you start transcription. Unsynced content may not show the button.
