Note Editor Overview
The note editor in Evernote is the area of the app where you add text, attachments, and other content to your note—in other words, the area where you create and edit a note.
Some notable features of our note editor include:
- Text styles. Custom semantic headers allow you to specify large header, small header, and other common text styles.
- Text formatting. Choose from our font selector, font formatting, and multiple highlighter colors to call attention to various areas of text.
- Insert menu. Easily insert attachments, tables, code blocks, and more.
- Checklists. Recognize at a glance which to-do list items need your attention.
- Readability. You can adjust the note width to align with best practices for optimizing the reading experience.
Note: Older versions of the Evernote app may use older versions of the editor that have different functionality. Those versions are no longer supported.
Formatting note content
The note editor offers standard note formatting options that you might find in similar editors or word processors. You can choose options like bold, underline, and italics, as well as the color of your text and highlighter. Semantic headers allow you to quickly add size and structure to your content.
All of the formatting options are available in the formatting toolbar at the top of the note editor, and include some of the following:
- Font size
- Heading level
- Simplify formatting
- Remove formatting
Add a variety of files and features to bring structure and clarity to your notes. You can choose from options like images, documents, and audio recordings by clicking the Insert button (+) in the formatting toolbar at the top left of the note editor. From there, you will see the full list of insert options available, including:
- Calendar Event
- Photo (Desktop) or Image (Mobile)
- Audio Recording
- Code Block
- Google Drive
- Camera (Mobile only)
Add numbered lists, bulleted lists, and checklists to your notes to keep track of important action items, start a grocery list, or even illustrate a step by step process. Select a list option in the formatting toolbar at the top of the note editor.
Quickly insert clickable links to add context to your notes and provide easy access to helpful articles, files, and websites. Simply copy a URL, highlight some text, and select paste to create a new link in your notes. You can also insert links to other notes in your Evernote account.
