Sometimes, you need to jump straight to an important section within a note. Here are a few cases where this can be useful:
- You're planning a trip and want quick access to your itinerary, budget, or packing list.
- You're a teacher preparing lesson notes and need direct links to different topics.
- You're organizing project documentation and want teammates to jump to relevant sections instantly.
Creating a link to a specific part of a note
You can create links to specific sections in your note using headers. When you format text as a header, you’ll have the option to copy a link to that section.
Here’s how:
1. Open a note and select the text you want to format as a header.
2. In the Editing toolbar, click or tap the “Aa” button, then choose the header style you’d like to use.
-
Tip: Want to do this even faster? Use the slash command!
If your cursor is on a new line, at the start of a line, or at the end of a line (with a space before the slash), type / followed by h1, h2, or h3 to instantly apply a header style.
3. Hover over the header, then click the Copy link to header button that appears on the right.
- Note: This option is currently available only in the desktop and web app, not on mobile.
4. Paste the link anywhere in your note, in another note, or share it with others!
Creating an automatic table of contents
If your note contains multiple headers, you can automatically generate a table of contents. This provides a structured overview of your note with clickable links to each section. If you update a header in your note, the table of contents will update automatically.
To insert a table of contents:
- Tap the Insert button (+) in the Editing toolbar and select Table of contents.
- Type "/" to open the slash command menu, then select Table of contents.
This will generate an automatic list of all your headers as clickable links. Simply tap or click on a header, and you’ll be taken directly to that section of your note!
