Why do I see unexpected or spam-like notes in Evernote?

If you've noticed notes in your Evernote account that you didn’t create, especially ones that look like spam or contain suspicious links, it might be because your unique Evernote email address has been shared publicly, and spam emails are being forwarded to it.

How does email forwarding to Evernote work?

Evernote lets you save emails as notes by forwarding them to a unique email address associated with your account. For more information on this feature, see our article on saving emails to Evernote.

Why am I seeing notes I didn’t create?

Sometimes, if your Evernote email address is shared publicly (even unintentionally), it can be targeted by spam. This means you might start seeing notes with content you didn't create. These are usually the result of spam emails forwarded directly to your Evernote email address.

How to stop receiving these notes

If you suspect spam is coming through your Evernote email address, you can easily change it. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to Evernote and navigate to the Account Summary page.
  2. Find the option labeled Email Notes To and click Reset. This will generate a new, unique email address for forwarding notes, so any unwanted emails sent to the previous address will stop.
