As of August 6, 2024, new and existing Free accounts will be able to access their Evernote account from one connected device at a time. This is a change from the previous Free device limit of two connected devices.
Personal, Professional, and Teams account holders can continue connecting unlimited devices.
FAQ
What is a connected device?
By device, we mean any platform you use to access your Evernote account. This includes Evernote’s Windows and Mac desktop apps, Android and iOS mobile apps, and Evernote Web.
How do I know how many devices I’m currently using?
In general, you can easily check your connected devices:
- On Desktop: Select Evernote > Settings in your desktop navigation bar. Then, select Devices.
- On Mobile: Tap on your profile image in the top left-hand corner to open the menu. Tap your image again to open your Account summary. Then, select Devices.
- On Web: Click on your profile image in the top left-hand corner to open the menu. Select Settings. Then, select Devices.
If you have an Evernote Free account….If you have more than one device connected to your account, you’ll receive a pop-up the next time you open Evernote prompting you to disconnect your other devices to continue using the tool for free. To proceed and access your Evernote account, you should click on the green text Unsync a device.
Then you should follow the instructions in the pop-up to see which devices are currently connected to your account and select the ones you wish to disconnect. If you do not receive a pop-up in your account, this means that you already have only one connected device.
I’m an existing Evernote Free user with more than 1 connected device. What will happen to me with this change?
If you’re a Free user and have more than one device connected to your account, you’ll receive a pop-up the next time you open Evernote prompting you to disconnect your other devices to continue using the tool for free.
If you’re not interested in upgrading to a paid account, you can follow the instructions in the pop-up to choose which devices to disconnect. Once you do so, you’ll automatically be logged out of your Evernote account on all except your chosen device.
Going forward, you can switch devices by simply logging out of Evernote on one device and logging back in on another.
Can I disconnect devices to stay below the limit?
Yes. If you’re a Free user and with more than one device connected to your account, you can disconnect your other devices to continue using the tool for free. To do so, visit this article with detailed instructions.
Does Evernote need my consent to make this change?
When creating an Evernote account, all customers (including Free users) agree to Evernote’s Terms of Service. The Terms give Evernote the Right to modify the Evernote Service—as a result, we do not need to give users advance notice about account changes like the new device limit.
