How to Disconnect a Device: Revoking vs. Unsyncing

When managing your devices on Evernote, you might need to disconnect a device to stay within the limits of your plan or maintain security. This can be done through revoking access or unsyncing. Here's a clear breakdown of each method and when to use them:

Revoking a Device

Revoking disconnects a device from your Evernote account completely. This method is ideal for situations like lost devices or transitioning to new ones.

Steps to Revoke Access:

  • From Desktop/Web:
    1. Go to your Account Settings
    2. Navigate to the Devices section. You'll see a list of all devices currently authorized to access your account.
    3. Select Revoke access next to the device you want to remove

Alternatively, you can:

    1. Click your name or email in the upper-left corner
    2. Go to Settings
    3. Select Devices > Disconnect selected device
  • From Mobile (iOS, including iPad and iPod touch/Android):
    1. Tap your profile image in the upper-left corner
    2. Tap your name to access account details
    3. Select Devices > Disconnect selected device
  1.

Unsyncing a Device

Unsyncing is specific to Free plan users who are limited to one connected device at a time. If you attempt to use a second device, a pop-up reading "LIMIT REACHED Upgrade to continue using Evernote on this device" will appear prompting you to either upgrade/pay or unsync an existing device to proceed.

Steps to Unsync via the Pop-Up:

  1. Select Unsync a device in the pop-up
  2. Review your list of connected devices
  3. Choose a device to unsync, freeing up space for the current one
  4. Confirm to proceed

Scenarios for Disconnecting Devices

  • Lost or stolen device: Use revoking to ensure the device no longer has access to your account
  • Switching devices: Choose unsyncing or revoking to manage transitions
  • Device limit exceeded (Free plan): Follow the pop-up instructions to unsync devices

Important Notes

  • Free users can unsync up to 2 devices per month. If you exceed this limit, revoking is the alternative
  • Evernote Web counts as one device
