When you delete a note, it’s moved to the Trash. The trash is synced across your devices like all of your other synced content.

To permanently delete these notes from your account, you can delete individual notes from the trash or you can empty the entire trash. Any notes you delete from the trash are permanently removed from your account and are unrecoverable, even by Evernote Support. Be careful to only delete notes you’re absolutely sure you won't ever need again.

Can’t find the Trash? (Desktop)

If you don’t see Trash in the sidebar, it may be hidden in your sidebar settings.

Step 1: Check the More section

Some items may be grouped under More.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar.
  • Click More.
  • If Trash appears there, you can open it normally.

Step 2: Check sidebar settings

If Trash isn’t visible in the More section, or you don't see the More section, it may be entirely hidden.

  1. Click on your account name at the bottom left corner of the screen.
  2. Go to Settings > Preferences > Sidebar.
  3. Look for the Group hidden options in “More” option:
    • If this is checked, hidden items will appear in the More section of the sidebar.
  4. In the Customize options list, find the Trash at the bottom of the list.
  5. Make sure the eye icon next to Trash is visible (not crossed out). Click the icon to show or hide the section.

Once enabled, Trash will appear either directly in the sidebar or inside More, depending on your settings.
