Find in Note: search for text inside a single note

Find in Note lets you search for text inside the note you already have open, instead of searching your whole account. Use it when you want to find a word, phrase, or name within a single long note — the in-note equivalent of Ctrl+F / Cmd+F in a browser or word processor.

Find in Note is available on desktop (Mac and Windows) and web.

Open Find in Note

• Press Cmd + F (Mac) or Ctrl + F (Windows) while a note is open.
• Or open the More actions menu (three dots) at the top right of the note and select Find in note.

Search within the note

1. Type the word or phrase you want to find. Matches are highlighted in the note as you type.
2. Use the up and down arrows in the Find bar (or Enter and Shift + Enter) to jump between matches.
3. The Find bar shows how many matches were found and which one you are currently on.
4. Press Esc or click the X to close the Find bar and clear the highlights.

Opening a note from search results

When you open a note from your search results, Evernote takes you straight to the first match inside that note and Find in Note is already active with your search term, so you can move between matches right away without retyping it.

Note: this applies when you execute a search by pressing Enter/Return and open a note from the results. If you open a note directly from a suggestion in the search modal (“Go to…”), the note opens normally, without highlighting and without Find in Note.

What Find in Note can search

Find in Note looks for matches in the note body, including:

• Note text, headings, tables, checklists, and callout blocks
• Inline tags added with the # command
• Text inside PDF attachments, including PDFs that are collapsed in the note

Is Find in Note available on mobile?

Find in Note is currently available on desktop and web. Availability on iPhone, iPad, and Android may differ by app version.

Does Find in Note support advanced search syntax?

No. Find in Note matches plain text within the open note. Advanced search operators such as tag: and notebook: work in account-wide search only. See Use advanced search syntax.

Can Find in Note replace text?

No. Find in Note locates and highlights matches; it does not include a find-and-replace function.
