Introduction
Dictation lets you dictate directly into a note and have your speech converted to text in real time. Instead of typing, you can speak and watch your words appear in the note - useful for capturing ideas quickly, drafting hands-free, or taking notes when typing isn't convenient.
Note: Dictation is different from AI Meeting Notes and AI Transcribe. Dictation converts your speech to text live as you speak, while AI transcription generates text from an existing audio recording.
How to dictate into a note
Dictation is available on the desktop and web apps.
- Open an existing note or create a new note.
- Place your cursor where you want the dictated text to appear.
- Start dictation from the editing toolbar (the microphone / dictation option), then begin speaking.
- Your speech is converted to text and inserted into the note as you speak.
- Stop dictation when you are finished.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between dictation and audio recording or transcription?
Dictation converts your speech to text live, directly into the note, and does not save an audio file. Audio recording saves the audio in your note, and you can generate a transcript from it.
Does dictation require an internet connection?
Yes. Dictation processing requires an active internet connection.
