What’s changing
PayPal is updating its Direct Debit (bank account) payment service in Japan. PayPal is migrating its Direct Debit connections with certain financial institutions to a new system called Bank Pay, which supports faster processing and a wider range of banks.
To complete this migration and continue using Direct Debit for subscriptions, you must cancel your existing Direct Debit setup and re-register your bank account in PayPal.
Affected customers will be directly contacted by PayPal with detailed instructions.
The previous Direct Debit connection method is scheduled to be discontinued by the end of February 2026.
Who will be affected
This only applies to customers in Japan who pay for Evernote via PayPal using a bank account (Direct Debit). If you use a credit or debit card with PayPal, no action is required.
How this may affect your Evernote subscription
If your PayPal Direct Debit setup is not re-registered before the previous service is discontinued:
- Your Direct Debit payment method will be canceled in PayPal.
- Any subscriptions or automatic payments linked to that setup — including Evernote — will also be canceled.
What to do if your payment or subscription was canceled
- Sign in to your PayPal account
- Re-register your bank account using the new Direct Debit (Bank Pay) setup
- Return to Evernote and renew your subscription, or choose another payment method
Evernote cannot update or re-register your PayPal Direct Debit settings. Changes to bank account payments must be completed directly in PayPal.
If you need help with the Direct Debit setup process, please contact PayPal Customer Support.
