Rename a notebook

The default notebook is where you can keep all your notes until you have time to reorganize them. Many find it useful to rename it 'Inbox' or 'To file', or whatever makes the most sense to you.

To rename a notebook, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Select Notebooks from the sidebar to view the notebook list.
    2. Right-click the notebook you'd like to rename, then select Rename Notebook...
  • Windows

    1. Select Notebooks from the left panel to view the notebook list.
    2. Right-click the notebook you'd like to rename, then select Rename Notebook.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    The new Evernote for iOS
    1. Open the notebook you'd like to rename.
    2. Tap the options button (three dots) to view more options.
    3. Tap Rename notebook.
    4. Replace the notebook name and tap Rename.
    Older version of Evernote for iOS
    1. Open the notebook you'd like to rename.
    2. Tap the options button (three dots) to view more options.
    3. Tap Notebook Settings.
    4. Replace the notebook name and tap Done.
  • Android

    1. Slide the navigation menu out by swiping from left edge of the screen.
    2. Tap Notebooks from the menu.
    3. Tap the options button (three dots) to view more options.
    4. Tap Rename notebook.
    5. Rename the notebook and tap OK.
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web

    1. Click Notebooks from the sidebar to view the notebook list.
    2. Click more actions (three horizontal dots) next to the notebook you'd like to rename.
    3. Select Rename notebook from the menu.


    Older version of Evernote Web

    1. Click the Notebooks icon (notebook) from the sidebar to view the notebook list.
    2. Select the notebook you'd like to rename.
    3. Select the Info button (letter 'i') and rename the notebook.
