When installing Evernote for Gmail, you may see several different requests for permissions—from allowing Evernote to manage drafts and send emails to allowing Evernote to view message content and metadata. You may need to refresh your inbox if you don’t see the add-on right after installation.

What's the difference between Evernote for Gmail and the Evernote Web Clipper?

Evernote for Gmail is an add-on that is built specifically for Gmail. It allows you to both save emails from Gmail and insert note links into email drafts—all without leaving Gmail. You can find the add-on to the right of your messages list in your inbox or in your email composer window.

Evernote Web Clipper is a browser extension designed for web browsers like Chrome and Safari. While you can use the Web Clipper to clip just about any type of web page, including emails in Gmail, you cannot use the Web Clipper to share notes via email. The Web Clipper can be found in your web browser’s toolbar.

Can people who don’t use Gmail or don’t have Evernote accounts view the note links shared from Evernote?

Yes. Anyone who opens the note link can view the contents of the note. As a reminder, any notes links that are shared using the add-on are public links, which means anyone with access to the link will be able to view its contents, even if you didn't share it with them directly. You can revoke permissions to a shared note at any time. Learn how >>

What are the default settings for saving an email?

By default, Evernote for Gmail automatically saves entire messages (and message threads), including attachments, to your default notebook without any tags. You can change this behavior in the settings. You can change your default notebook, add a default tag, and turn off message threads, which will allow you to select specific messages to save in a thread each time. The settings can be found by opening an email message, clicking the add-on icon, clicking the menu button (three dots) in the upper right corner, then clicking Settings.

Can I create a new notebook or space from within the Gmail add-on?

No. You can only assign a notebook or space that already exists in your Evernote account.

If I authorize the Evernote for Gmail add-on to access my Evernote account, will Google be able to access my notes?

No. Installing and authorizing the Evernote for Gmail add-on will not give Google access to content in your Evernote account.

Can I share links to business notes from my company's Evernote Business account?

Yes. To share a link to a business note, you must be the owner of the business notebook it resides in or have 'Can edit and invite' permission for the note.

Why can’t I find a note I’m searching for when trying to insert a link?

If you’re having trouble finding the note you’re looking for, try searching with different words or phrases, or using Evernote’s advanced search syntax to help you with more specific searches.
