Dark mode in Evernote makes reading and writing easier on your eyes by allowing you to switch to a darker, higher-contrast color theme.
Enable dark mode
If you don’t see the options to enable dark mode as described below, you may need to update either your operating system or your Evernote app. See the FAQ at the bottom of this article for operating system and app requirements.

Mac
The new Evernote for Mac- Click the Settings button (gear) next to your name at the top of the left navigation menu.
- Go to Preferences > Application and select a dark mode setting.
Older version of Evernote for Mac
When you enable dark mode on your Mac, Evernote will automatically switch to the dark color theme. To enable dark mode on your Mac:
- From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
- Click General.
- Next to the Appearance options at the top of the window, select Dark.
Notes:
- Switch to the Light appearance in your device's system preferences to disable dark mode.
- When in dark mode, you can use a light-colored note editor if you prefer. In Evernote, go to Evernote > Preferences from the menu bar and check the box for "Use Light Mode for notes".

Windows
Dark mode is only available in the new Evernote for Windows. To enable dark mode:
- Click the Settings button (gear) next to your name at the top of the left navigation menu.
- Go to Preferences > Application and select a dark mode setting.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
- Open Evernote.
- Tap the three lines in the bottom left corner to open the menu.
- Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the menu and select Dark mode.
- Select a dark mode setting, then tap the back arrow to save the setting.
Older version of Evernote for iOS
Evernote will automatically switch to the dark color theme when you enable dark mode on your device. To do that:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Display & Brightness.
- In the Appearance section, tap Dark.
Note: Switch to the Light appearance in your device's settings to disable dark mode.

- Open Evernote.
- Tap the three lines in the bottom left corner to open the menu.
- Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the menu and select Dark mode.
- Select a dark mode setting, then tap the back arrow to save the setting.
Older version of Evernote for Android
- Open Evernote.
- Tap the menu button (three horizontal lines) to open the menu.
- Find Dark Theme in the menu, then toggle the switch. It should be green when the dark theme is enabled.
Note: Toggle the dark theme setting off to disable it.

- Open Evernote Web.
- Click the Settings button (gear) next to your name at the top of the left navigation menu.
- Go to Preferences > Application and select a dark mode setting.
