How to use Evernote for Microsoft Teams
With Evernote for Microsoft Teams, you can seamlessly share, pin, edit, and search for important Evernote notes without leaving the Microsoft Teams app.
Install Evernote
To install Evernote:
- Click the menu button (three dots) under the composer, then click Go to store.
- Find Evernote and click Install. You can choose whether to add it for you, for your entire team, or both.
Note: If your Evernote Teams account was created before September 15, 2017, Microsoft Teams will default to your team notes when you search for notes, pinning a new tab, or sharing them in the conversation. You can switch to notes in your individual account by clicking the menu button, hovering over Evernote and clicking the three vertical dots, selecting Settings, then clicking Personal.
Share notes
You can share individual notes to your team directly from the composer (the box where you type in your message in the Conversations tab of any channel). Click the "..." button in the composer toolbar and select Evernote. In the dialog box, you can search for and select notes to share directly into the channel you are chatting in. Notes shared this way will open in your web browser.
To pin Evernote to your composer for quicker sharing, hover over Evernote from the menu, click the three dots, and select Pin. Once pinned, you will see the Evernote icon appear in the composer toolbar.
Pin notes
You can pin Evernote notes relevant to a particular team as individual Tabs for quick and easy access. To pin a note as a Tab:
- Click the + on the tab bar, then select Evernote
- Enter a search phrase or paste an Evernote note link into the search bar (Note: If you haven’t signed in to your Evernote account yet, you will be prompted to sign in first.)
- Select a note and click Save
Edit notes
When you add individual notes as Tabs, you can edit notes that you have permission to edit directly in Microsoft Teams. Simply click on the note from the Tab bar and begin editing in the same window. If you are not signed in, or if you don't have permissions to edit the note, you will see a read-only note view. You will also see a read-only view if the Tab was added by explicitly pasting a public share link, regardless of your permissions.
Editing is currently only supported on Google Chrome or on the downloaded Microsoft Teams desktop app.
Search notes
With Evernote installed, the search bar in Microsoft Teams allows you to search your Evernote account. To search your Evernote account, simply type “@evernote” followed by a search phrase. Selecting a note from the search results opens that note in your web browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I edit a pinned note?
To edit a note, you must have edit permissions. Editing is currently only supported on Google Chrome or on the downloaded Microsoft Teams desktop app.
Note: Pasting a public note link when adding a Tab (rather than using the note picker) will make the note view-only, regardless of editing permissions. We recommend using the note picker whenever possible.
Why can’t I see notes from my individual account when searching?
If your Evernote Teams account was created before September 15, 2017, Microsoft Teams will default to a view of your team notes. You can switch to notes in your individual account by clicking the menu button, hovering over Evernote and clicking the three vertical dots, selecting Settings, then clicking Personal.
