Understanding Evernote Free and Starter plans limits: note and notebook limits explained

Evernote Free and Starter plans include limits on the number of notes and notebooks you can create. These limits help ensure a consistent experience across plans while still allowing you to access your existing content. These are the current limits by plan:

  • Free: up to 50 notes and 1 notebook

  • Starter: up to 1,000 notes and 20 notebooks

Here are the key details about these limits:

  1. Exceeding the limits: If you have more notes or notebooks than your plan allows, you can still view, edit, share, and export your existing notes. However, you won’t be able to create new notes or notebooks until your account is back within the limits of your current plan.

  2. Managing your notes: You can delete existing notes and empty the trash to free up space for new ones. Notes in the trash still count toward your plan’s note limit.

  3. Shared notes: Even if you’re at your plan’s limit, you can still receive shared notes. These notes will appear in the Shared with Me section and can’t be moved into your own notebooks unless you’re within your plan’s limits or you upgrade your account.

  4. Consolidating notebooks: If your notes are spread across more notebooks than your plan allows, you can consolidate them by deleting excess notebooks and restoring or moving notes into the remaining ones.

  5. Upgrading for more features: To create more notes or use additional notebooks, you can upgrade to the Advanced plan, which offers the possibility to create unlimited notes and notebooks and additional features. You can compare our current plans on the compare plans page.
