Understanding the device limit

Overview

With Evernote Basic, you can use the Evernote app on up to two devices, and on any number of computers using Evernote Web. This device limit only applies to the following Evernote apps:

  • Evernote for Mac
  • Evernote for Windows
  • Evernote for iOS
  • Evernote for Android

Other Evernote products—such as Evernote Web, Web Clipper, Skitch, and Penultimate—and third-party apps that use the Evernote API integration do not count toward the device limit.

If you would like to sync your notes across all your devices, upgrade to Evernote Premium.

Frequently asked questions

  • How are devices counted?

Each device where you’re signed in to the Evernote app counts toward your device limit.

If you have multiple devices of the same type, each one counts toward your device limit. For example, if you sign in to your Evernote account on two different iPhones, it’s counted as two devices.

If multiple people sign in to separate accounts on the same Evernote app, on the same device, that device counts as one device for each Evernote account. For example, if you and your spouse share a Mac at home and use account switching to sign in to each of your accounts, the Mac counts as one device for you and one device for your spouse.

  • How do I check how many and which devices are associated with my account?

You can view and manage all of the devices associated with your account on the "Devices" page in your account settings.

  • How do I remove a device from my account?

You can remove devices associated with your account on the "Devices" page in your account settings. If you run into the device limit when signing in to a new device, you may also be prompted to remove a device and replace it with another directly in the Evernote app. You can do this up to two times per calendar month.

  • If I sign out of Evernote on a device, does that remove it from my account?

Signing out of Evernote should remove a device from your account. If you’re seeing a device limit message when you sign in to a new device, check the "Devices" page in your account settings to confirm that any old devices have been removed.

  • Will I lose my notes if I remove a device from my account?

No. When you remove a device from your account, you will not lose any of your synced notes.

  • Why can't I use Evernote Web on my phone or tablet web browser?

Evernote Web is not optimized for mobile browsers. Because we want you to have the best experience possible, you must install Evernote from your mobile device’s app store.

  • How come I’m getting a device limit message when I only use Evernote on two devices?

You may be getting an error message because your account is still linked to a device you are no longer using. Check which devices are associated with your account by visiting the "Devices" page in your account settings.

  • I uninstalled and reinstalled Evernote on the same device and now I’m getting a device limit message. How do I fix it?

You may be getting an error message because your device was considered a new device when you reinstalled Evernote. You can remove the “old” device that is linked to your account by visiting the "Devices" page in your account settings.
