6 ways to organize your personal life using Evernote
Use Evernote for your everyday tasks, such as creating to-do lists, keeping personal records, and saving important documents. When it’s all organized in Evernote, you can quickly find what you’re looking for.
1. Make lists for things to do, items to buy, and more
You’ve just moved into a new house and there’s a laundry list of things to complete. Create checklists, bullet lists, and numbered lists in Evernote and access them whenever you need them.
Example Lists:
- People to contact
- Home repairs to be made
- Furniture and decor wanted
- Groceries to buy
PRO TIP
Add a reminder to receive notifications for time-sensitive notes. You don’t want to forget the chips & dip for the housewarming party.
2. Scan and save billing statements, payment confirmations, and receipts
Keeping a record of your finances can help you track expenses, stay on budget, and plan for large purchases. Use the Evernote camera on your mobile device to scan paper bills, invoices, and receipts. If you have paperless statements, download the PDFs from your bank and save them to Evernote.
PRO TIP
Use tags to categorize expenses and mark items as paid or unpaid.
3. Snap photos of restockable household items
Snap photos of items you need to replace or items you use around the house regularly, and you’ll always be able to recall the brand, type, or model of an item you need. This might be useful for printer ink, vitamins and supplements, pet food, and more.
PRO TIP
You can also snap photos of valuable items that may be covered under your insurance, such as jewelry and electronics.
4. Clip blog posts, news articles, and cooking recipes
Bookmarks are great for saving links to home decor inspiration, feng shui articles, and dinner recipes, but clicking through a list of website titles isn’t the most practical way to review the content you’ve been surfing. Evernote Web Clipper saves the full content of each web page in a note and links back to the original page. This makes your bookmarks easier to search through while giving them context at the same time.
PRO TIP
Turn on “smart filing” in Web Clipper which suggests the most relevant notebook for the clipped page.
5. Save PDF contracts and documents
Save PDF downloads or scans of your mortgage contracts, lease agreements, and other important documents. Once saved to Evernote, the documents become searchable from within the app.
6. Share important information with family and friends
You don’t want to be in a situation where your family can’t get ahold of you when the house alarm is accidentally tripped. Save important information like alarm codes, emergency contact info, insurance papers, and product warranties safely in Evernote, then share the notes with household members for access anytime, anywhere.
PRO TIP
If you’re planning a vacation, share all of your booking confirmations, travel plans, and trip ideas with everyone who will be joining you.
