How to access notes offline

Evernote is designed to sync all of your notes and notebooks across all your devices when you have an internet connection.

To view or edit notes when an internet connection is unavailable:

On desktop computers

If Evernote for Mac or Evernote for Windows Desktop is installed on your computer, all of your synced notes and notebooks are stored on your computer in a local database. Because your content exists in local files on your computer, you'll always have access to them, even when an internet connection is unavailable.

To access these notes while offline, make sure that you're already signed in to the app before you disconnect from the internet. Any changes you make during your time offline will be synced the next time your computer connects to the internet.

On mobile devices

On mobile devices, Evernote stores only note titles, tags, a small excerpt of text from the note, and some other system information related to your notes and notebooks. All of this information is stored to a temporary file so you can search and browse notes.

Full contents of a note are available from a mobile device if:

  • A note was originally created on that mobile device
  • Your device is connected to the Internet
  • You've recently viewed a note
  • You've set up offline notebooks on that device (Evernote Plus or Premium)
