Share notes

Evernote makes it easy to share notes with others. Share notes such as meeting agendas, design ideas clipped from the web, travel itineraries, reports, or project task lists.

How to share an entire collection of notes as a notebook

Different ways to share notes

Share a note within Evernote

When you share a note within Evernote, recipients can open the note directly from the “Shared with me” section of the app. Any time the recipient clicks the note from "Shared with me", they should see the most recent version. To share a note within Evernote, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Click the green Share button.
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Set the permission level.
    5. Click Share.
  • Windows

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Click Share button.
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Set the permission level.
    5. Click Share.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open the ‘Notes’ tab and tap on the note you would like to share.
    2. Tap Share Note button (silhouette with the plus sign).
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Tap the pencil icon to set permission level.
    5. Tap Done.
  • Android

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Tap the Share Note button (three connected dots).
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Tap the pencil icon to set permission level.
    5. Tap Send (paper plane).
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web:

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Click the green Share button.
    3. Select share notebook from the drop-down menu.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact).
    5. Set the permission level.
    6. Click Send Invitation.


    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Click Share.
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Set the permission level.
    5. Click Send.

Share a notebook as a public link

Every note in Evernote comes with a unique URL you can copy and paste to share with anyone, even outside of Evernote. Each time someone views the link to your note, they will see the most recent version in their web browser. However, they can also choose to save a snapshot of the note to their own account. Because this is a public link, anyone with access to the link can view the note until you disable the link. To share a note via public link, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Right-click on the note you would like to share.
    2. Select Copy Shareable Link.
  • Windows

    1. Right-click on the note you would like to share.
    2. Select Share > Copy Shareable Link.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open the ‘Notes’ tab and tap on the note you would like to share.
    2. Tap Share Note button (silhouette with the plus sign).
    3. Tap Shareable link off then select a share method.
  • Android

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Tap the Share Note button (three connected dots).
    3. Tap Shareable link off then select a share method.
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web:

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Click the green Share button.
    3. Click the toggle button next to Shareable link to enable the link.
    4. Click Copy link.


    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Click the downward arrow on the Share button.
    3. Select Link then click Copy.
    4. Click Done.

 

Share a note via email

When you share a note via email, you’re sending a snapshot of the note at the time you share it. Any content changes that you may make will not be visible to anyone you’ve previously shared the note with. To share a note via email, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Right-click on the note you would like to share.
    2. Select Share Note.
    3. Click More Sharing button then select Email a copy…
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    5. Click Send.
  • Windows

    1. Right-click on the note you would like to share.
    2. Select Share > Send a Copy.
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Click Send.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open the ‘Notes’ tab and tap on the note you’d like to share.
    2. Tap Share Note button (silhouette with the plus sign).
    3. Tap More sharing options and select Email copy of note.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact).
    5. Tap Send.
  • Android

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Tap the Share Note button (three connected dots).
    3. Tap the menu button (three dots) then select Email copy of note.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact).
    5. Tap Send.
  • Web

    Note: Not available in the new Evernote Web

    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Open the note you would like to share.
    2. Click the downward arrow on the Share button.
    3. Select Email.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    5. Click Send.

 

Change note permissions or stop sharing

To view and edit permissions for notes you've already shared, including to stop sharing, find the note from the note list, then follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Select the shared note.
    2. Click the green Share button.
    3. Click More Sharing > Stop sharing with everyone.
    4. Or click Shared with... to change permission or stop sharing with individual users.
    5. Or select Note > More Sharing > Stop Sharing Public Link from the menu bar to stop sharing via public link.
  • Windows

    1. Select the shared note.
    2. Click the Share button.
    3. Click the down arrow next to the permission setting for each user.
    4. Change permission or select Remove access to stop sharing.
    5. Or click Turn Off next to Shareable link on to stop sharing via public link.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Select the shared note.
    2. Tap the Share button (silhouette with a plus symbol).
    3. Tap the pencil icon to change permission or remove access for each user under Who can access.
    4. Change permission or select Remove access to stop sharing.
    5. Or tap Shareable link on then scroll down and tap Stop sharing to stop sharing via public link.
  • Android

    1. Select the shared note.
    2. Tap the Share button (three connected dots).
    3. Tap the pencil icon to change permission or remove access for each user under Who can access.
    4. Tap Shareable link on to stop sharing via public link.
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web:

    1. Select the shared note.
    2. Click the green Share button.
    3. Click Stop Sharing to stop sharing with everyone.
    4. Or click the arrow next to Who can access and change permission or remove access for individual users.


    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Select the shared note.
    2. Click the downward arrow on the Share button.
    3. Select Link > Stop sharing note to stop sharing via public link.
