Share notebooks

Evernote lets you quickly and easily share any of your notebooks with other people, if you choose. Share a notebook and allow others to view and collaborate on work.

Share notebooks so you can:

  • Organize a group project – Collect all your meeting notes, files and to-do lists in one place.
  • Build a creative repository – Save design inspiration, articles and photos.
  • Plan a business trip – Put your itineraries, packing list and phone numbers where you can always access them.

How to share individual notes without sharing the entire notebook

 

Different ways to share notebooks:

  • Share a notebook within Evernote
  • Share a notebook as a public link

Share a notebook within Evernote

When you share a notebook in Evernote, recipients can open the notebook directly from the “Shared with me” section of the app. To share a notebook within Evernote, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Click the menu button (three dots).
    3. Select share notebook from the drop-down menu.
    4. Select Shared and enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact).
    5. Set the permission level.
    6. Click Done.
  • Windows

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Click the menu button (three dots).
    3. Select share notebook from the drop-down menu.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    5. Set the permission level.
    6. Click Share.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open the ‘Notes’ tab and tap on the notebook you want to share.
    2. Tap the menu button (three dots).
    3. Tap Share notebook.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    5. Tap the pencil icon to set permission level.
    6. Click Done.
  • Android

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Tap the Share button (three connected dots).
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Tap the pencil icon to set permission level.
    5. Click Send.
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web:

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Click the menu button (three dots).
    3. Select share notebook from the drop-down menu.
    4. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    5. Set the permission level.
    6. Click Send Invitation.


    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Open the notebook you want to share.
    2. Click Share.
    3. Enter at least one email address (or select at least one contact) and include an optional message.
    4. Set the permission level.
    5. Click Send.

Share a notebook as a public link

Note: This feature is only available in Evernote for Mac or Windows.

You can make a notebook public (publish it) by sharing it with a link. Anyone who has the link can access the notebook. To share a notebook via public link, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    1. Open your list of notebooks and choose a notebook to publish.
    2. Right-click on the notebook name and select Publish Notebook.
    3. Click Publish.
    4. Copy the link.
  • Windows

    1. Open your list of notebooks and choose a notebook to publish.
    2. Right-click on the notebook name and select Share Notebook.
    3. Click on Modify notebook permissions.
    4. Click Publish.
    5. Copy the link.

 

Set permission levels

When you invite someone to work with you in a notebook, you decide how much access to give them:

  • Can edit and invite: Invitees can make changes to notes, add notes, share individual notes via email and public URLs, and invite additional users to view and edit the shared notebook.
  • Can edit: Invitees can make changes to notes, add notes and share individual notes via email.
  • Can view: Invitees can only view notes in the shared notebook.

Change notebook permissions or stop sharing

To view and edit permissions for notebooks you've already shared, including to stop sharing, find the notebook from the notebook list, then follow the steps for your operating system below:

  • Mac

    1. Right-click on the notebook name and select Modify Sharing.
    2. Click ‘X’ next to the user you would like to stop sharing with.
    3. Or select Private to stop sharing with everyone.
  • Windows

    1. Right-click on the notebook name and select Share Notebook.
    2. Click Modify notebook permissions.
    3. Click ‘X’ next to the user you would like to stop sharing with.
    4. Click Stop Sharing.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Tap the menu button (three dots).
    2. Tap Share Notebook
    3. Tap the pencil icon to change permission or stop sharing
  • Android

    1. Tap the menu button (three dots).
    2. Tap Modify Sharing
    3. Tap the pencil icon to change permission or stop sharing
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web:

    1. Open the notebook you would like to stop sharing.
    2. Click the menu button (three dots).
    3. Select share notebook from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click Stop Sharing and confirm.


    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Open the notebook you would like to stop sharing.
    2. Click the Notebook Info ('i') button.
    3. Click Modify sharing.
    4. Click ‘X’ next to the user you would like to stop sharing with.
    5. Click Stop Sharing.
