How to change your default notebook

The default notebook is the notebook where new notes, web clips from Evernote Web Clipper, and forwarded emails are all automatically saved if no other notebook is specified.

Set your default notebook

  • Mac

    1. Select Evernote > Preferences... from the menu bar
    2. In the ‘General’ tab, next to "By default, place new notes into the following notebook:", select the notebook you'd like to set as your default
  • Windows

    1. Select Tools > Options from the menu bar
    2. In the ‘General’ tab, click Select default notebook
    3. Select the notebook you’d like to set as your default
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open the 'Account' tab
    2. Tap Settings > Notebooks
    3. Under 'Default Notebook,' choose the notebook you'd like to set as your default
  • Android

    1. Tap Settings > Notebooks > Default Personal Notebook from the navigation menu
    2. Choose the notebook you'd like to set as your default
  • Web

    1. Click to open the notebook you'd like to set as your default
    2. Click the info button (letter 'i') in the notebook header
    3. Select the checkbox labeled "Set as default notebook"
  • Web Clipper

    1. Click the Evernote icon in your web browser to open the Web Clipper panel
    2. Click Options at the bottom of the panel
    3. In the 'Notebook Selection' section, check the radio button for 'Always start in' and choose the notebook you'd like to set as your default
