The default notebook is the notebook where new notes, web clips from Evernote Web Clipper, and saved emails are all automatically saved if no other notebook is specified. You can identify your default notebook by the small star at the bottom right of the notebook icon.
Change your default notebook
To change your default notebook, follow the steps for your operating system below.

Mac
- Click the Settings button (gear) next to your name at the top of the left navigation menu.
- Go to Preferences > Notebook and select a notebook from the dropdown options.

Windows
- Click the Settings button (gear) next to your name at the top of the left navigation menu.
- Go to Preferences > Notebook and select a notebook from the dropdown options.

iPhone and iPad
- Tap the three lines in the bottom left corner to open the menu.
- Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the menu and select Notebooks.
- Under 'Default' select the notebook you'd like to set as your default.

Android
- Tap the three lines in the bottom left corner to open the menu.
- Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the menu and select Notebooks.
- Under 'Default' select the notebook you'd like to set as your default.

Web
- Click the Settings button (gear) next to your name at the top of the left navigation menu.
- Go to Preferences > Notebook and select a notebook from the dropdown options.

Web Clipper
- Click the Evernote icon in your web browser to open the Web Clipper panel.
- Click Options at the bottom of the panel.
- In the 'Notebook Selection' section, check the radio button for 'Always start in' and choose the notebook you'd like to set as your default.
