How to find notes using descriptive search in Evernote for Mac

Evernote's search is great at helping you find your notes. With descriptive search, you can use common words and phrases to find notes the way you remember them. For example, by date (when you created it), by place (where it was created), by device (what device you used), or even by document type (which files were attached to it).

Note: Descriptive search is currently available for English users in Evernote for Mac.

For example, to find your vegetarian recipes, simply type a phrase such as:

  • recipes tagged as vegetarian
  • recipes that are vegetarian
  • recipes vegetarian
  • vegetarian recipes

Vegetarian recipe results

How it works

Type your phrase in the search bar, then select an option from the suggested searches in the drop-down list displayed below the search box. Descriptive search makes suggestions based on the actual contents of your Evernote account, such as notebooks or content of your notes, tags, and devices.
