Evernote lets you capture everything that's important to you in your personal and professional life. Setting up a passcode to lock access to the Evernote app on your phone or tablet adds an additional layer of protection and privacy to your notes.

Note: Passcode lock is only available on Evernote for iOS and Android. If you enable the passcode option on Android, screenshots and screen recordings will be disabled.

Set up a passcode

To set up a passcode, and enable a face or fingerprint unlock (if desired), follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open Evernote.
    2. Tap your account picture or icon at the top left corner of the screen.
    3. Tap Settings to open the settings.
    4. Tap Passcode > Require passcode.

Note: To use Touch ID or Face ID, set up a passcode, then toggle the switch for "Unlock with Face ID" or "Unlock with Touch ID".

  • Android

    1. Open Evernote.
    2. Tap your account picture or icon at the top left corner of the screen.
    3. Tap Settings to open the settings.
    4. Tap Passcode > Require passcode.

Note: If your device supports fingerprint unlock, and you have passcode lock enabled in Evernote, "Unlock with fingerprint" will be enabled by default. Fingerprint scanning may not be supported on all devices. In addition, it is not supported on Android M or older.
