Notebooks are how notes are organized in Evernote, and are commonly used to separate notes by category, location, or purpose. For example, you might create one notebook called 'Home Remodel' and one called 'Schoolwork' to keep these types of notes separate and easier to find.

Organize notes into notebooks so you can browse, search, and share similar notes easily, for example you may create a notebook for:

  • Work projects
  • Travel planning
  • Creative projects
  • Company resources
  • Receipts
  • Contracts or documents

To create a notebook, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    Select Notebooks from the navigation menu, then click New Notebook.
  • Windows

    Select Notebooks from the navigation menu, then click New Notebook.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    The new Evernote for iOS: Open the navigation menu, tap Notebooks, tap the options button (three dots), then tap New notebook.

    Older version of Evernote for iOS: Select the Notes tab, tap the notebook dropdown at the top of the screen, then tap + New Notebook.

  • Android

    The new Evernote for Android: Open the navigation menu, tap Notebooks, tap the options button (three dots), then tap New notebook.

    Older version of Evernote for Android: Slide the navigation menu out by swiping from left edge of the screen, tap Notebooks from the menu, then tap the new notebook button (notebook with a plus sign).

  • Web

    The new Evernote Web: Select Notebooks from the sidebar to view your notebook list, then click + New Notebook.

    Older version of Evernote Web: Select Notebook icon from the sidebar, then click the +New Notebook icon at the top of the notebook list.
