Use note history to view and restore older versions of a note

Note history allows you to view and restore older versions of a note. Notes in your account are automatically backed up periodically, and note history allows you to view and restore these older revisions.

Important: Note history is not accessible via the Evernote mobile app (Android and iOS). To access note history, please use the Mac, Windows, or Web version of Evernote.

To access note history, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac and Windows
    1. Open a note.
    2. Click the options button (three dots) at the top right of the note editor.
    3. Click Note history.

Alternatively, you can:

    1. Right click on a note from the notes list.
    2. Click Note info.
    3. Click Note history.
  • Web
    1. Open a note.
    2. Click the options button (three dots) at the top right of the note editor.
    3. Click Note history.

From the note history, you can:

    1. Click on the date to preview and find the note version you want to restore.
    2. Click Restore to directly restore that version of the note in your account.
    3. Alternatively, click Export to download the note as ENEX file.
    4. Use the Evernote desktop app to import the ENEX file into your account.
Note: If you don't use or are unable to access Evernote desktop application, you can copy and paste the content from the version in the note history into a new note.

 

I accidentally deleted part of the content of a note. Can I restore it?

Yes, you can! If you accidentally deleted part of a note's content, you can access the note history and restore an older version that still includes the deleted content.
