How to attach a file in a note

Just about anything can be attached to a note, including files, images, and audio. You can even attach snapshots taken with your phone or desktop computer's camera.

How do I attach a file?

Any type of file can be attached to a note, as long as the total size of the note with attachments included does not exceed the note size limit of your account. To attach a file, follow the steps for your operating system below.

  • Mac

    Find the file that you wish to attach, then drag and drop the file onto:

    • An existing note to add the file as an attachment.
    • A notebook or the Evernote icon to create a new note with the file attached.
  • Windows

    Find the file that you wish to attach, then drag and drop the file onto:

    • An existing note to add the file as an attachment.
    • A notebook or the Evernote icon to create a new note with the file attached.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Open the note to which you wish to attach a file.
    2. Tap the green square plus button or a paperclip icon.
    3. Tap Attach File to capture a new photo from your device or tap Add from Photos to attach an image from your photo gallery.
  • Android

    1. Open the note to which you wish to attach a file.
    2. Tap the Paperclip icon then select the type of attachment you wish to add.
  • Web

    The new Evernote Web:

    1. Open the note to which you wish to attach a file.
    2. Drag and drop the file from your computer onto the note body or click on the blue plus sign icon in the note editor and select Attachment to manually attach a file.


    Older version of Evernote Web:

    1. Open the note to which you wish to attach a file.
    2. Drag the image from your computer into the note body or use the paperclip icon in the note editor to manually attach a file.

 

Attach multiple types of content to a single note

When you select or tap to edit your note, select to attach different types of content to a note:

  • Attach files of any kind

  • Add checkboxes

  • Add bulleted and numbered lists

  • Add photos from your camera roll

  • Take a photo with your camera or webcam

  • Record audio
