Change the sort order of your notes

Evernote offers several options which you can sort your list of notes by. The sort order is an application-wide setting, so all notebooks, search results, and other note lists are all sorted the same way. You cannot set different sort orders for different groups of notes.

  • Mac

    The new Evernote for Mac

    1. Click Sort options icon (down arrow) at the top of the note list.
    2. Choose a sort setting under the 'Sort By' heading.


    Older version of Evernote for Mac

    1. Click the note view button (grid-like rectangle) near the top of the note list.
    2. Select 'Sort by: Date Updated' (it may show a different option), then choose a sort setting.
  • Windows

    The new Evernote for Windows

    1. Click Sort options icon (down arrow) at the top of the note list.
    2. Choose a sort setting under the 'Sort By' heading.


    Older version of Evernote for Windows

    2. Select 'Sort notes by', then choose a sort setting.
  • iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

    1. Tap the options button (three dots) at the top of the note list.
    2. Tap on Sort by and select the desired sort settings. By tapping on the green arrow pointing down, you can invert the sort order.

    2. Tap 'Sort by', then choose a sort setting.
