Due dates allow you to set a custom date or time, or a time preset (such as “today” or “tomorrow”), to indicate when a task is due. Setting a due date is not the same as adding a task reminder, and you will not receive a notification unless a reminder has been added to a task. While a task can only have one individual due date, which becomes overdue once the date has passed, a task can also be scheduled to repeat on a regular basis and automatically reset to the next due date in the recurrence schedule.
Tasks with a due date show the due date next to them.
Note: This feature is only available with a Personal, Professional, or Teams subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I learn more about tasks?
To learn more, visit Tasks Overview.
What is the purpose of a due date versus a task reminder?
A due date is meant to be the date that a task should be completed. Depending on the task, it may be possible that the due date and task reminder are the same. Here are some examples of when you might use one, the other, or both:
- Your "Complete tax returns" task has a due date of April 15. You should set one or more task reminders in advance of this date to help you meet the upcoming due date.
- Your "Call Mom" task may not have a due date at all, but you can add a task reminder to notify you when to complete the task.
- Your "Finish writing chapter one" task has a due date of next week, but you don't need any notifications to remind you to write. (Or maybe you do!)
Why don’t I receive a notification for a due date that is upcoming or has passed?
Due dates do not trigger notifications. To receive a notification, add a reminder at the date and time you’d like to receive a notification. You can add up to five reminders to a task.
What happens to my due dates if I cancel my subscription?
Your tasks will retain any due dates that were set prior to canceling your subscription. However, you will not be able to add or edit a due date to new or existing tasks.
